Our 5-day itinerary for the upcoming holiday season in San Diego
Decked in holiday cheer, now is the perfect time to explore San Diego. San Diego RV Resort has compiled some holiday season favorites in "America's Finest City!"

Day 1: Let There Be (Holiday) Lights!

Nothing gets you into the spirit of the season like holiday lights! On November 28th, 2015, head to the historic mining town of Julian, California for their Annual Living Christmas Tree Lighting. Spend a relaxed afternoon meandering the streets of this quaint town while enjoying carolers, holiday shopping and delicious spiced cider. Of course, no trip to Julian would be complete without a slice of the famous Julian Pie Company apple pie. At 5 p.m., head to Pioneer Park and watch the city light up the living Christmas tree. The lighting kicks off an entire month of Julian holiday festivities.

Holiday cheer takes to the water with the 44th Annual San Diego Bay Parade of Lights on December 13th and 20th, 2015. We recommend taking time to explore the bustling downtown and indulging your taste buds in the popular neighborhood of Little Italy. (Don't forget a traditional Italian Christmas cookie while you're there!) From Little Italy, head a few blocks west to the bayfront and enjoy the festive floating display.

Day 2: Ho-Ho Holiday Bowl (and more sport outings)

With direct access to the San Diego Trolley, traveling from San Diego RV Resort to one of the two college bowl games in San Diego is a cinch. The Poinsettia Bowl (Dec. 23rd) and Holiday Bowl (Dec. 30th) are both played at the home of the San Diego Chargers Qualcomm Stadium.

Work off your holiday indulgences with San Diego's winter half marathon! The Inaugural San Diego Holiday 3rd Annual Half Marathon hits the pavement on Sunday, December 27th, 2015. The race begins in Rancho Penasquitos and ends near Torrey Pines State Beach.

Day 3: Festive Family Fun

San Diego's big three—SeaWorld San Diego, San Diego Zoo and Legoland California—all feature fantastic holiday shows that entertain children of all ages. Leaving San Diego RV Resort via the trolley, head straight to the world-famous San Diego Zoo.

Looking for animals of a more aquatic kind? SeaWorld's Christmas Celebration kicks off November 21st and marks the return of SnowWorld, a million holiday lights, and special holiday shows!

If you've got a Lego fan in your family, head to Legoland's Holiday Snow Days! From November 27th - December 30th, your family can enjoy all the fun of Legoland PLUS real snow, sledding and more! Each night, the park lights up the sky with the World's largest Lego Christmas tree!

Day 4: Tis the Season to Take in a Show!

San Diego RV Resort guests can hop on the San Diego Trolley and head to historic Balboa Park December 4th and 5th, 2015 for the beautiful Balboa Park December Nights. San Diego's largest free community festival, attendees will enjoy free access to the park's many museums, food, entertainment, shopping and more! While you're at the park, don't miss the perennial favorite: The Nutcracker. Performed by the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet, curtains come up Dec. 9th to Dec. 20th.

Also within the massive Balboa Park: the Old Globe Theater and it's rendition of Dr. Suess' How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Our hearts are growing just thinking about this holiday classic which will run from November 20th - December 26th.

The San Diego Symphony is back again with Holiday Pops! This year, enjoy their "Holiday Spectacular" from Cirque Musica: familiar classical and Christmas tunes accompanied by feats of strength, balance, daring and sheer beauty, plus you'll get to sing along to the many popular hits of the Season like "Jingle Bells" and "O Come All Ye Faithful!"

Day 5: Cool Fun in Sunny San Diego!

Ice skating at the beach? Oh, yes! Spend a beach day soaking up the sun and playing in the sand at the pristine Coronado Beach. When you've had enough, walk just steps to the historic Hotel Del Coronado for Skating by the Sea. The beach is available year-round, of course, but the rink will go up November 26th. The ice will melt January 3rd, so lace up your skates while you have the chance!

Fun: Holiday Spirit On Parade!

Between rhythmic waves, beach volleyball games, roasting s'mores, and rides on the historic Giant Dipper roller coaster at Belmont park, you may not think to head just a block or two off the beach for some more San Diego fun! If you're on Mission Beach, enjoy a drink, a bite and perhaps a ride on the Wave House's awesome wave machine. (Or, maybe just watch as others attempt to stay standing!) At Pacific Beach, take a break from the sand and waves, and head to San Diego's new favorite spot for custom ice cream sandwiches, The Baked Bear.

Bonus Fun: Holiday Spirit on Parade!

The holiday season is ripe with parades, and San Diego is no exception!

Mother Goose Parade, El Cajon - November 21st, 2015
