On Saturday, June 29, 2013, Escondido RV Resort hosted the grand opening of their brand new dog park. Guests, local businesses, city officials and Sunland staff members celebrated the one-third acre fenced park with a barbecue, pet parade, and ribbon cutting.
As Sunland staff were grilling up hot dogs to raise money for the Escondido Humane Society, the Veterinary Specialty Hospital, Acacia Animal Health Center, and Escondido Humane Society were on hand to chat with guests. The humane society also brought five adoptable dogs to introduce to interested visitors.
"Today, we not only brought resort guests and members of the community together for a fun event, we raised nearly $200 for the local humane society," said Sunland RV Resorts Vice President of Operations, Greg Sidoroff. "We are thrilled that for years to come, our guests and their pets will have an amazing open space to enjoy."
To close the event, Mayor Higginson of Poway and Mayor Abbed of Escondido cut the ceremonial ribbon at the entrance of the dog park. While owners retreated to the park's shade trees and picnic tables, the pooches had a chance to run, play and even cool off in the fire hydrant water feature.
Attendees all walked away from the event with something including food from San Diego-based dog food company, The Honest Kitchen; Sunland dog treats; and gift certificates from attending vendors.
